My clients and students all know I LOVE planks! If your not sure what a plank is, it’s an isometric core exercise where you hold your body in a push-up position with your body’s weight lying on you forearms, elbows, and toes while holding your abdominals in. According to the American Council on Exercise, it’s among the top 10 ABS exercises! The reason I love planks so much is because it strengthens your whole body if done correctly. While it targets your core (which includes all your abdominal muscles, chest, pelvis, lower and upper back) you are also strengthening your shoulders and biceps in the upper body and your glutes, thighs, and calves in your lower body. Planks helps promote good posture which may help prevent back injuries while performing other exercises or activities. If you include planks to a healthy diet and consistent workout routine it can help slim down your waistline! Now who doesn’t want to do that? I challenge you all to start planking today! You may only be able to do 20 seconds in the beginning, that’s okay! Gradually increase the time as your body gets stronger. Work your way up to 1 minute, then eventually 2 minutes or longer.
