On June 23, 2015, our own Erica Dias, attended OWN’s press luncheon featuring cast members from their hit television shows, “The Haves and The Have Nots,” and “Love Thy Neighbor.” The event was held at Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant, located on Peachtree Street right in the heart of Atlanta. Catering to more than 20 people and showcasing high chandeliers and professional service, Maggiano’s was an excellent choice of venue for this event.

The cast members, including Angela Robinson, Gavin Houston, Patrice Lovely, Kendra Johnson, and Tony Grant, discussed the evolvement of their characters since last season, fan feedback and how it affects the writing of the scripts, cast member’s personal connections to their on-screen character identity, and how the character’s roles have helped some of the cast through their own personal situations. Angela Robinson, who plays socialite Veronica Hampton in “The Haves and The Have Nots,” added to the conversation by saying, “we want to be real, and then let the chips fall where they may. [We are] truthful in telling the story, and then the story stands on it’s own.” Patrice Lovely added, “Mr. Perry is mindful of what fans say. Sometimes we’re in shock of what happens with our characters too.” It is very clear that this cast is just as interested in their character’s story lines just as much as the fans are. Dedicated to their careers as actors and actresses, each cast member explained their experience in working with OWN and Tyler Perry. Guest attending this invite only event were pleased with the previews of the new season’ episodes for both shows. I for one can definitely say that this new season will be one for the books!
